UPDATE: Turns out I'm going to be moving to the Midwest in 2 months and would prefer to sell the car while I'm still on the East Coast. $20k takes it (I'd still consider trades).
I've been putting this off for years, but it's time to see about trading/selling my supercharged Jet Black 2002 MT M3 with 122k+ miles. I've owned it since 2007 (2nd owner, stock at the time of purchase). Lots of performance and cosmetic upgrades (started in 2010), but I never tracked/HPDE/auto crossed the car (life happens and plans change).
I've delayed so long, at this point it's probably not much of a feeler thread, but more of I should trade/sell. I've got 3 kids of driving age and I really need an automatic transmission car that would be appropriate for them to drive.
After I took ownership, the car averaged about 2.5K miles a year. 99% of the time, it was garaged (3 levels underground).
Big 3:
Car isn't perfect by any means, but I've always taken care of it and did maintenance/fixed things as needed. However, if you intended to HPDE/autocross the car, I would recommend:
In 2011, I experienced a side airbag deployment due to a hitting a large pothole while avoiding a collision. A car suddenly swerved into my lane, forcing me to quickly change lanes. The lateral movement while hitting the pothole must have triggered the side airbag deployment. While there was no visible body damage, the driver's side wheel and steering components were damaged. My insurance company's preferred shop, Pohanka Collision did the repairs, but following that, I had the vehicle inspected by Funktion Auto Group, the race shop I was using to do performance mods at the time. They found no issues with the repairs and we proceed with our planned modifications (I was upgrading the Active Autoworke’s stage 1 kit to stage 2+).
All of the performance work was done by Tuning Tech Frank Smith (Crofton MD), Funktion Auto Group (Sterling, VA), and German Car Service (Sterlin, VA), as well as a performing most of the service/maintenance. I also used BMW dealerships for a lot of the maintenance and repairs when it was something they would work on. Only recently did I use a non-BMW dealership/Race shop to have a few items fixed (I needed to get thru Maryland inspections, so they installed the Active Autowerke 100 cell cats) and I also had them do a repair for the oil pump, guibo, and rear shock mounts).

After I took ownership, the car averaged about 2.5K miles a year. 99% of the time, it was garaged (3 levels underground).
Big 3:
- Rod bearings - replaced by BMW under warranty (prior to my ownership – around 49K miles)
- VANOS -serviced at 100K by Tuning Tech FS
- Subframe – no visible cracks (Inspected by RRT in 2023. They quoted me $2k)
Car isn't perfect by any means, but I've always taken care of it and did maintenance/fixed things as needed. However, if you intended to HPDE/autocross the car, I would recommend:
- Supercharger rebuild ($1,000-$2,000 guesstimate)
- Rear end refresh (not vital, but not a bad idea to have done when having the subframe reinforced - $1,900 RRT)
- Front Bump replacement/new splitters (I may be able to get old OEM bumper back)
- Tires need to be replaced
- Rubber on the bottom of the windshield is old/cracked
- Aftermarket gauges need to be fixed (damaged wiring on the sending unit for the boost and need to recalibrate O2 sensor)
- After the work on the rear differential was completed, it groans a bit when it is cold out and you first turn sharp (RRT said it was an easily fixed by using a different diff fluid)
- Just recently the front passenger splitter was ripped off when I was pulling off the road into a gas station. I haven’t tried to repair it, but it’s pretty trashed. I’d recommend a whole new front bumper, as I’ve had to wire it a few times over the years. (I am trying to track down an OEM bumper I had in storage)
- Some cracks in the CF on the outside mirrors
- Paint correction wouldn't hurt (inconsiderate parking neighbors)
- Minor curb rash on a couple of the wheels

Extras
- I have the Rogue Engineering Rasp mid pipe (catless Section 1)
- CF wrapped OEM engine cover
- Simon2 cable for AA (you can use to remotely tune/clear codes/etc)
- I may be able to track down the OEM front bumper I had on it
