The front door mids in my M were basically done; just staring at the speakers themselves would further deteriorate that speaker foam.
I had contacted BavSound to see if they sold components individually, and unfortunately they didn't offer that option. I looked around ebay, and many sellers were posting E36 HK mids for at least $70 a pair, and most of them had torn speaker surrounds. Then I found a post dating from 2013 stating E46 HK mid-range speakers being compatible with E36 mounting provisions, so I decided to give it a shot myself.
I bought some HK mids (FRONT DOOR) in the tan enclosures, popped and swapped the drivers over, and everything was plug and play. The HKs in tan seem to sell cheaper than those in the black enclosure. Nevertheless, the sounds are now a LOT richer.
Hope this helps anyone who's been looking at finding a low-cost speaker replacement solution.
