M3 3.2 longevity

In the process of buying a 97-98 M3 4dr (auto or stick)and just wondering what a good deal would be....ive found a 97 w/ 84,000mi for 17,900.....ok deal? also anyone have to replace there 3.2 engine, if so whats damage to the wallet?????thanks



P.s any one from the CT or NYC area????
