I skipped the Seahawks game and decided to put in my new OEM shifter bushings, ZHP knob and CSB.
I pulled just the middle cat section of the exhaust.
Then lowered the driveshaft to look at the CSB.
I used the snap-ring pliers to remove the clip and concave shield. Then picked the seal out to take and look and the bearings looked very nice. I packed them full of grease and pushed the seal back on.
I couldn't find a reason to wrestle a new bearing on there. It now turns perfectly smooth. The 10 minute test drive made me think it was fine.
One trick to the seal. Picking it out (carefully) bends it a little. Just use your fingers and bend it back, ever so gently. I pressed it back into place and it looks like new.
I've done this with the 3 pulleys up front on many cars too. I opened it up to find nice clean, dry bearings. Packed them have since put thousands of miles on them. Any excess grease seems to work it's way out and sling around, so I don't pack it to the max.
This sedan only has 79,400 miles so yours might not be as clean.
