Bimmerworld knob turned out to be a pita to get off which it's fully metal clips … loving the new illuminated E36 knob

Trying to yank the shifter body off with some weed wacker cable …

    Dremel <3

Not a bad idea … may look at cutting, cleaning and conditioning my original boot that I've had in storage ..

I have E60 shift lever (I believe P/N 25117546373), UUC DSSR, delrin bushing and a Bimmerworld 'Lil Nicky' knob. I think the shift quality is about as good as can be without going to a full AS kit or CAE shifter, definitely like the weight and throw. Wanting to go back to stock leather and illuminated knob and will post when I replace. Due to the insane price of a new OE knob I plan to get an E36 illuminated knob (P/N 25112228742) https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-5...uine-bmw-part/ and refit with the E46 electrical connector.

    (apologies for WIP pic)

I ended up ordering the longer e60 shifter and I must say, I think I'm going to like it a lot. I did notice there was a lot of slop like you stated. I ended up filling the void with strips of zip tie.

Here's a short video I made showing how much slop it has. Crazy considering it is brand new!!

I have 25117546373, the short version in my car, and like it a lot. I originally had a ZHP shifter knob but it was way too short and swapped to a standard height M3 knob and now it's perfect.

    Ignore my daughter's hair tie

I had noticed dinan and rogue shifters had a bolt so I added 2 for good measure. Has a very solid feeling now but does transfer some gearbox NVH, particularly when shifting

Would you happen to have pictures comparing it to the factory M3 lever?

Also, would you explain what you mean by drilling a hole and adding a bolt to get rid of the rubbery feel? I might try this with my factory lever.

I've had the 373 lever and honestly I love it. Oem notchiness and the shift knob is the perfect height. Sometimes with short shifters the boot and knob look sunken in, but not here.

I find the lever positioning and throw lengths to be perfect. Only complaint is the typical bmw rubbery feel which I addressed by drilling a hole and adding a bolt.

So I installed the garagistic front and rear polyurethane carrier bushings, a new rod joint and new shift lever bushing. I temporarily used the original shifter lever, and it is night and day different than what it was. But my shift lever is so worn, I have to replace it. Although I am curious about TJ's "drilling a hole and adding a bolt" comment.

I also installed the 884 knob and paired it with a shift boot from turner. The leather is soft and supple and the plastic trim ring fit perfect

    Can you elaborate on this?

I completely missed this was about levers and not shift knobs, shouldn't quick read a post while working.

This thread isn't about knobs. He's talking about the metal lever. I.e., changing the throw. I see now that a few of you, recently, posted about knobs, but I didn't quote you guys or anything. I'm just talking about the lever.

Best setup in my opinion is all stock except for a delrin or poly nose carrier bushing, and the weighted 884 knob with sequestered factory boot (nappa) or zhp alcantara.

Oh, and if you haven't try the latest DCT fluids in your manual gearbox. They're backwards compatible (GL4), proper light weight, and they feel great!

I'm sure you already know but: stock is the illuminated broomstick, whereas 884 is the non-illuminated weighted broomstick, and then you have the zhp knob. OP mentioned having the 884 on order, which is not stock- hence my confusion.
