I got a rubber boot from a miata, trimmed it and installed it upside down. I need to replace the shift knob, that thing gets hot in the summer.

I used the stock boot when installing an rtd on my car. The only cut I made was for the one bolt hole(sliced a split at that part). Sorry no photos, but I put some soap on the boot, slid it onto the shifter and then was able to wedge the boot into place on the trans tunnel before bolting the shifter in. I didn't have to flip the boot upside down, and it seals well the way I have it.
EDIT: This was on an e46 though, just noticed you have an e36...not sure how different the boot is.Last edited by Drlph25; 04-02-2020, 05:55 AM.

So it seems people use a trimmed stock boot turned upside down.
We tried that and didn't really like it.
