SOLD: Genuine BMW 712 Yellow Tag Steering Rack (REBUILT)

    Hi all -

I managed to pick up few more 712 tags in my inventory (7), so I’m going to be rebuilding one per month just to have on hand.

I’ve a freshly rebuilt 712 yellow tag for sale. If you’ve seen my rebuild thread, this has received the following treatment:

    1. Kotek USA E46 steering rack seal kit
    2. Brand new OE SKF, NTN and INA bearings (genuine parts)

    $950 shipped and insured

Can send photos, but the rebuild process and product is as you’ll find in this thread: https://nam3forum.com/forums/forum/c...tag#post331751

Hope everyone has had a great start to the New Year.

    David

I am curious which element of your rebuild process would remove play in the rack? Does this play come from worn out bearings or a worn out pinion? Most racks on cars I've owned are not leaking so new seals aren't really a selling point.

Simple answer: depends on what's wrong with your rack. Tired seals will inevitably leak, and every single rack I've opened (down to a 57K blue tag rack) has cracked urethane oil seal rings. I don't rebuilt steering racks that have worn down rack teeth or a worn down pinion gear. The better question is what do people keep defining as "play"? If you're steering has a "dead" spot in the middle and you have a green tag rack, then that's the "play" you'll have by design of the rack. The first thing I'd check is your steering coupler for fatigue which might help tighten up the "play". The second source of "play" would be worn down steering rod teeth and/or pinion gear wear. The third source of "play" could just be worn inner tie rods.

It depends on what you're experiencing.

Since this thread was bumped and reminded me - this particular rack has been sold.
