I looked at the carbon bonnets when i was at Thorney and it is something i would like to do in the future.

I would like to get it sprayed in SG and just leave the vents in the carbon.

I agree that the matt black wrap looks mean......

I think Thorney can get away with it as it looks like a quasi-race car, but on a roadgoing CSL, its just a bit of a chavvy mod. If they did a plain CF bonnet then it would be great, but i understand the bootlid is the thing that saves true weight, not the bonnet because of the structure underneath.

Not sure how much the boot lid saves over the existing plastic one - all the figures quoted for weight saving are compared to the stock metal M3 boot lid.

Good point! Anyone know the difference between M3 and CSL?

lo, I wish, he's only bought wheels off me the git :-D

As regards the CF bonnet, yes in terms of weight saving its pointless, it weighs the same as the stock one near as dammit, but the gains from engine bay temps being reduced via the venting are certainly worth it. Think of it, any kind if vent is going to create drag so race teams think long and hard before they do it, especially on something as aerodynamically important as the bonnet. However engine bay temps for M3's (and CSl's) especially on track can get bloody high, we advise people to op the bonnet after a long session on track to help. The vents on the GTR bonnet (it is a replica of those used on the M3 GTR's) do indeed wick heat away with great effect.

By all means buy one for looks, or engine bay heat dissipation but not for weight.....for that you'd need to buy one of our new race bonnets....vented and weigh 2.2kg's :-D but they are race items only, no good for a road car.

Do'h, I pressumed his toys were all from you cos hey came at similar times.

I can imagine the bonnet vents work wonders for bay temp. Id just prefer a more OEM look.

There you have it..thanks for clearing that up Thorney. Would imagine then if you buy the CF bonnet for it's looks on the road it would lower fuel ecomony beacause of the extra drag...or this a bit extreme.

We have a deal of sorts , involving racing next year  hence the work on the road Car etc.. Not going Carbon Bonnet or Boot , just think they look cool IMHO ... and agree it good to Keep a CSL fairly stock , bar , Brakes , Suspension , Exhaust ...all the things that can be swapped back etc ... or makes your motor more desirable to the right buyer ... not that im selling of course !!

Car in having MOT and all I want to do is get down to Brands !!!!! bugger

Isn't it weird how everyone seems to want to buy stock, but then modify? I know I'm the same, I'd rather do the mod's myself, even though it ends up costing more :119:
