If you're buying a car that's a bit of an unknown, I'd definitely recommend the comp. warranty based on my recent experience.
I bought my car a couple of months ago privately for a reasonable price, but expecting to have to spend a grand or so fixing stuff that I couldn't spot before purchase. I put the Named Component warranty on the car as it seemed a reasonable compromise, covering a lot of the really expensive stuff.
As luck would have it, my car has now had, or will shortly need:
1 x brake caliper [failed seal not covered on Named Component cover]
2 x rear springs [not covered]
1 x exhaust mount [not covered]
2 x differential oil seals ["oil leaks" not covered on Named Component]
1 x rear ball joint worn [not covered]
RTABs need replacing and realignment done [not covered]
So none of those things in itself is too bad but it soon adds up ! Comp warranty would have covered most of the above I think.
