more throttle, less brakes is what an advanced driver would do. all very well talking about it but in practice - it is entirely different story.Originally posted by E46CSL View Post
a novice will be on the brakes more often - it's a fact.
you need brakes to perform as intended - don't you?
when they fade, you might as well hit a wall to stop.
your advice is potentially dangerous.

.
That's why driver training is No 1. You will know that some CSL drivers still use the standard set-up but are very quicker than those with the AP set-up. Short circuits, a different story.
The 'Ring time of 7:50 -was that with the standard brakes? And how many times should you brake at the 'Ring?

and who are those? put some names and timesOriginally posted by E46CSL View PostThat's why driver training is No 1. You will know that some CSL drivers still use the standard set-up but are very quicker than those with the AP set-up. Short circuits, a different story.
how many times do you need to brake? are you for real? some days are very busy so actually quite a lot.Originally posted by E46CSL View PostThe 'Ring time of 7:50 -was that with the standard brakes? And how many times should you brake at the 'Ring?
7.50 - time set by a professional on one lap of the ring - 20.6 km long... on an empty road.
what happens when you have to brake very hard twice in a row? do that and see what happens for yourself.

... so uprated pads, hoses and fluid are just a little bit better than stock brake set up, Nathan? I think it is a massive improvement in terms of resistance to fade, over stock brakes.Originally posted by _Nathan_ View PostGaute was properly quick in his on OEM brakes, Chalkie was also very, very quick on OEM brakes, both guys just did pads and fluid.
Better tyres than Cups? You mean Slicks then as there is nothing road legal and better.
By better tyres i meant something like Michelin SS etc. these clearly are the best road tyre. Competition tyres would be cups, p zero corsa etc. OP is asking for pointers so clearly is a novice driver.
E46CSL is talking stock set up and advises a novice driver to use more throttle and less brakes.

Big improvement in pads and fluid, for some quick guys that is all they will ever need.
I agree.
I ran my car on standard brakes, standard shocks@ anglesey, albeit with max camber on the standard shocks.
Only mod was yoko a048, and I felt the standard shocks needed attention before the brakes did. I was passing everything on track and the brakes held up really really well. I was really surprised tbh as the first thing you hear people say is the brakes are really crap.
I reckon with uprated pads and hoses, that a decent driver would find the brakes OK. Obviously a BBK will out perform the standard stuff in prolonged on track stints. If you drive accordingly you can be just as fast on standard brake set-up. :smokin:

Since it is only resistance to fade we are concerned with on a race track - then there's absolutely nothing wrong with stock calipers. Uprated fluid, hoses and pads is all you need.
In fact, a stock CSL is very competent at x speeds to 0mph discipline on one stop only.
Even if Brembo did not offer any advantage over stock set up - i'd still be buying it... i love how the car looks with BBK.
I've been cleaning stock brakes 10 minutes ago and they really look like something cars had fitted back in 1950s
