Not sure on the smiley ..... But it means that if you put say 235 tyres on a 8.5j rim the tyre sits vertical on the sidewall and you get rubber protecting the rim edge, but if you then out the same 235 tyre on a 9.0j rim the tyre has to stretch an extra 1/2 inch where it sits but it still has the same 235 tread width so the tyre wall angles out to the rim, making it looked stretched.Originally posted by cslsuperfan View Postshimmy,
forgive my thickness what do you mean by tyres looking stretched on the new rims.:wanker:
Very popular with the show and shine guys, they like to see the rim sticking out:thumbs:

your 235's on a 9" should turn in very crisply now?Originally posted by shimmy View PostNot sure on the smiley .....its a wanker smiley Shimmy, you of allpeople should know that:hahaha: But it means that if you put say 235 tyres on a 8.5j rim the tyre sits vertical on the sidewall and you get rubber protecting the rim edge, but if you then out the same 235 tyre on a 9.0j rim the tyre has to stretch an extra 1/2 inch where it sits but it still has the same 235 tread width so the tyre wall angles out to the rim, making it looked stretched.
my car came with 225's on 8.5j, now on correct 8j its not so sharp ( like me some would say before you start:hahaha

So do I understand this correctly, a more streched setup will be better for track??Originally posted by northernjim View Postyour 235's on a 9" should turn in very crisply now?

Not exactly. I'm no expert but as I understand it, you need the 'right' amount of stretch.... Too much and then the sidewalls cannot give you any compliance, too little and the tyre rolls around too much...Originally posted by Niel333 View PostSo do I understand this correctly, a more streched setup will be better for track??
So 225 on 8.5 feels good ( on the road - not driving too fast) but I think it will lose grip on track before a car with 225 on 8"
235 is perfect on 8.5
255 on 8.5 will give you more braking ( as it's wider) but at the expense of cornering ( tyre is too wide to be held in place 'correctly' )
It depends on the brand, the suspension set up and how you like to drive too - this is what I think - and that could all be wrong :-D
