Morning, let's discuss SPG solutions for my car...

I really fancy a pair, possibly not helped because I was chatting to Ant @ Simpsons the other day about them when they were working on my car.

I have a few questions for all of you that have fitted them.

1/ Which mounting points do you all use? VAC ones or the ones which Simpsons fabricate? Any differences between the two?

2/ Where do you locate your original seat belt buckle? I'd like the choice of either normal seat belt or harnesses for track.

3/ Rear Seat access, not that I've had anyone in the back apart from my little one, is it possible to squeeze an adult in there?

4/ Harnessess, where do you chaps mount them to? Is it worth investing in a safety devices bolt in rear turret / hanrness mount? I've seen the Isofix solutions etc, are these safe?

5/ Re-sale...If I was to sell my front seats to fund said conversion, would I severely limit re-sale of the car? not that I have any immediate plans to sell the car anytime soon but you never know.

5. Unless your car is permanently and irreversibly changed to track slag I'd keep them and put back in later. Will limit resale otherwise.

No intention to change the car to a permanent track beast, but want a better seat imo.

Am I right to assume that the VAC mounts have to be ordered from the states?

If you mount the drivers seat on a slider you will get someone past into the back. I did with my corbeau pro series seats.

I only had adjustable slider because my track driving position is about 1ft further forward than my road lounging driving position.

2. OEM belts kept in same place with receptor on recaro side mount.
3. Even with a slider fitted you get minimal access to rear, poss a child but not an adult. I fit two tyres in rear going through the middle of the two seats.
4. 6 point with shoulders fitted to H brace for me.
5. Keep seats if you can afford to as you never know.

VAC mounts can be ordered from USA or Simpson can supply these too but guess they only source from the states anyway.

do we know anyone who has the SPG in stock where I can go sit in one to try it out for size?

Need to see how tight it is and if I need an XL, but I don't think i do.

I have removable h-brace (strut brace) and welded brace to the removable cross in which I loop my shoulder straps round. The most important as they take most of the force on impact.

There are many options for retaining practicality. Cage being the last but IMO if you are wanting harnesses, means changing seats and if you are changing seats, the rears are almost useless, so may as well cage it IMO. Slippery slope. Unless you manage to get a seat with slider that can give you enough room to get in the back still. Lawsy seems to know of one but my set up is tight.

The best compromise I have seen but not heard any feedback from was this one. Again Lawsy I think had one originally?

I looked at the bolt in solution you have the link for, I think it looks quite good it still means you can run harnesses and retain the back seats, plus has the rear strut braced too, am really tempted by this solution as it seems the best compromise as you have said.

I've not had any adults in the back, but Rosie gets in the back (she's 9) and she's built like a twiglet so I reckon she'd be ok for a few years, I can't realistically see any reason for adults to get in the back, but you never know.

Cage, I am torn if i'd have one, I was looking at Shane's car at Simpsons and they were telling me about welding the cage in, rear seats out forever and the door cards changed etc, it was almost too much for what I'd want, even though half of me thinks i'd like one!

It is a slippery slope, but then to get a fantastic car just how you want it, the slope needs to be ascended head first

I put an SPA in mine, beejesus it's snug. Had a seat in an SPG down at Silly couple of weeks back and it was a much better fit (for my size) aka pie size.

I quite like the idea of that rear brace but always have in the back of my mind that if, sorry I mean when the rear sub frame issue rears it's head they reject it because of this as it bolts to the boot floor.

As you are in Surrey might be worth PM'ing Uncle Benz on here. He built a lovely custom sliding mount for my E36 M3 and I believe did similiar for his own CS.
