Cheaper yes most definitely, importing impossible legally/cheaply...
Not possible for the next 16 years easily, in 2028 it will be available to bring in as a classic. Until then we are SOL :banghead: even if you do bring one in somehow, the smog/emissions without paying someone off you will fail the visual check even if you pass with the csl cats. Too much risk, and too much money to try to bring a real csl into the states to only have to dumb it down for crash testing requirements as well. I believe there was also a rule about having to crash test the parts or the car to allow bmw to bring the car to the U.S. market. I believe that is why BMW avoided the U.S. market with the CSL.
For me doing the transformation has allowed me to retain the valid registered vin of the m3, even though i've added most of the csl parts. Just in case you say why not bring the csl and swap vins well this may be a good reason not to. If i get into an auto accident, the vin is valid and registered as an M3 and not a csl or a csl that swapped vins with a wrecked M3 which would land you in jail if you get caught. The possiblily of being in an accident to have someone find out you swapped vins is worth fleeing the country, so the risk is not worth it.
