I went for a drive yesterday over the Berkshire Downs - first time I've taken the car out for fun in ages. And it was bloody good fun, despite light rain, a bit of bank holiday traffic and the odd tractor. The combination of agility, performance, noise is just spot on, and the car's small enough that you can overtake in places that you'd never get a supercar past...

Must do it again soon on a sunny day

Being in a smaller, more obviously looking 'sports' car has a childish appeal to me and the sheer thrust and overall quality of the Porsche started to make me think that maybe this was the car for me, the car above all others and the one to steal my heart. I was falling in love - or so I thought.

A few days ago I got the Bimmer back on the road....

We all know this but it's worth saying again - what an unbelievably good car the CSL is. WOW!

There's something magical about the way the CSL flows down a road; snorting, snarling and rasping away like a big sports bike. I don't claim to be a great driver and I must be about two continents and a bus ride away from realising it's full potential but, it makes me feel totally in control of a proper thoroughbred - and what a great feeling that is.

In equal measure I feel scared, exhilarated, alive and totally on top of it. After the last few drives I've been buzzing and thinking who can I call to rave at about how good it is, who's going to listen to me this time?

The Porsche is a very good car and to have both puts me in a very fortunate position; it really is a wonderful combination. The Porsche handles very well, much better than I thought it would from reading the general view about it being a cruiser. The steering in particular is excellent and I had thought the damping was about perfect too until earlier this week.

So the CSL wins and it turns out the Porsche remains a tasty piece on the side.

Postscript: The 911 is manual. I prefer the SMG. It suits the CSL perfectly.
Great analogy, the difference between Love and Infatuation! :hahaha:

Interesting to read. I've been on the lookout for a 996T for a while to add to the CSL. Having watched the prices for the last 12 months - I've missed the bottom of the value curve. 996T values are only going one way and they will definitely be an investment you can enjoy.

You have my perfect garage choice!

At twice the price I know I wouldnt have twice the car. Not as in your face as a gt3 but it's a car for those that know and those that don't know are missing out massively!! Csl is surprisingly quick as well after running with Ian's rs who owned my csl previously there's nothing in it which shocked us both..

Gt3s aren't twice the car but they are more challenging to drive well.

A standard CSL needs better brakes, a Gt3 comes battle ready.. But gt3 values have climbed massively, now's the time to invest in a mint CSL:smokin:

I've driven my mates Rs and although I would agree they are more challenging this is only if you are driving the car on the limit and chasing milliseconds on track. On the road I found his car to be easy to drive, gives you bags of confidence.
