Some might coincidentally be right, but it's based on dubious VIN sequencing deduction rather than anything definitive. Get one out and they are all probably wrong and I know my car is not on lists I have seen.

Build number <= 422 is safe though.

I don't know about being inaccurate, many just simply don't care so they scoff at it.

When you look at the data and sort it by VIN then build date, you get a pretty accurate picuture of when they were produced. But no it can't be 100% accurate but it is going to be pretty damn close.
