So, seeing as most lean toward the original cup tyres, why the preference over Cup2s?

I appreciate they were the tyres the car originally came with but is that a good reason not to go with the later design?

Because they're shit on track :blalalala:. The Cup 1s will do lap after lap after lap before finally over-heating (you will probably get too hot and bothered before they do ), where the Cup 2s have a finite window of operation, as in a couple of laps to warm up, and then a couple of laps of good grip and then they drop off a cliff and the car starts to feel "loose" and move around a LOT.

The Cup 2s WERE supposed to be a half-way house between the Super-sports and the Cup 1s, but CSLSuperfan, recons they're no better in the wet than the full fat Cups :bigcry: . So although they are marginally better than Supersports, they are just not as good as was hoped (where it was originally touted that they would be as good in the dry as Cup 1s with the wet weather grip of the MPSSs).

          Original Cups every time Brian.

If you have any doubts as to grip levels of mk1 Cups

get a pax ride @ Spa with Shim or Baz.

The cups will absorb obscene levels of punishment, the first time you experience this as a driver or as I did as a passenger; it truly is amazing.

              Have tried :-

              Tyreleader
              Oponeo
              Camskills
              Blackcircles

All have cups in rear size but not fronts.

Tyre places in town can only get cup2s

              Anywhere else worth looking at?

                          Hi Pops,
I got Gareth Lloyd (ex CSL owner) a set for his 1M (in genuine CSL sizes) last year when I got some for mine but due to a change of circumstances (he bought a 991 GT3), these are surplus to requirements.

They have been correctly stored (as he is a right fuss-pot like us all) and all he wants is his money back on them (which from memory is under £1k).

If you want me to pass on his details for you to contact him, PM me .
                          Best regards
                          Mike
