Camshafts - why are these so special

Why are the CSL camshafts so special and why are they having trouble finding a raw material to make them that doesn't fail?

Im loosing the will to live here and still no date from BMW.

Not driven the car for over 12 months and with 44k on the clock BMW would have to pay me out a huge premium, and then what would I buy.

Sorry I mean why can BMW not find a decent replacement for cars on warranty.
