    Furious

    Hi Guys

As some of you know I've had a few niggles with the car recently. Most annoyingly, a squeeking from the rear of the car. Also, clutch slur.

Anyway, the car is in with Murketts at the moment, great service and have been really impressed with them, they're getting the car sorted.

They have identified that a part of heat shield was out of place and stuck on the suspension, causing the squeeking and have moved this and sorted it. Whilst there they noticed the RTABs are knackered, and are replacing them and doing a 4 wheel alignment. They're also updating the software and re-programming the clutch to see if that improves things.

Here's where I'm annoyed. The car was taken to Thorney 1 year ago for a full check over. They seemed like a CSL specialist and I wanted someone to look over the car after I bought it to identify anything that needed doing before I even thought about tracking the car.

They supposedly replaced the RTABs as they said they needed doing. They also said the exhaust mounts were corroded and that I needed a new exhaust. I took it for a second opinion elsewhere and got under the car myself to find the exhaust was clearly fine.

Also, I've the car into the local BMW dealer twice for the squeeking. The first time they charged me £150 to fix the battery cover in the boot. Obviously this didn't fix the issue, so it went back again, and they checked over everything (suspension etc) to find the fault with no luck.

I'm not sure whether it's worth my while contacting Thorney, but am definitely phoning the local dealer in the morning to go nuts.

    Any other recommendations?!

    Cheers!

    Rant over (for now!)

How many miles between? Possible they were replaced and have worn, they don't last long at all. Did you have a limiter kit fitted?

Probably 10k miles.. How long should they last? Do they really need replacing every 10K?!

      No limited kit fitted...

Might be worth getting one fitted, without one and with track use 10k doesn't seem unreasonable to be honest?

I removed my battery tray as it always rattled!

The rear seat backs touch at the break section and this can also make some irritating noises :bigcry:

As Nathan says, bushes often don't last that long - especially if 'new' ones replaced had been sat on the storeroom shelf for some time and the rubber had deteriorated somewhat.

whats the deal with the limiter kit (excuse my ignorance!) I.e. what do they do/cost/can BMW do this?

Squeeks and rattles annoy the hell out me! Can't be dealing with it! Glad it's finally getting sorted.

In my opinion the local dealer should refund what I paid them though? I'm not that fussed about the money, more about the inconvenience and their incompetence!

10k still seems low, but if they really don't last that long then they don't. The car has only had one evening track session and one extremely wet session which was very uneventful!

Maybe 10k is a bit soon with only that amount of track work?

Limiter kit limits the lateral movement of the bushes to better locate them and extend their life - would've thought Murketts have fitted before.

I will ask them first thing in the morning before they work on it. I will also ask their opinion on how old the RTABs currently on there look!

                Cheers for the info!

Hard for me to comment without knowing the car (hard to tell from forum name, sorry) however I can look at the job card once I know as we record all the comments. We should have recommended the proflex bushes rather than standard RTABs however some people want OEM and not modified. RTABS going after 10k miles? Perfectly possible, thats why we fit the proflex ones as they last for twice as long but end of the day its a wearable item so all depends on use, mileage etc.

Happy to look at job card to see what was reported though.

I hadn't realised they could go so quickly to be honest, part of my ignorance for which I apologise.

I'm far more annoyed about the local BMW dealer having the car twice, charging me, and not fixing the problem with the squeeking!

Thank you for being magnanimous about it, appreciated. I'm still concerned about the recommendation for a new exhaust though, I think I remember the car and we noted the exhaust brackets were corroded (quite common) but will look into it. PM me your full name and WIP number and I can look at the comments on the job card. I like to be thorough.

Undestand the comments on the dealer though, we hear this a lot as they dont see CSL's that often these days now. Certainly Murketts and Battersea BMW we recommend, Andy and Matt respectively are the people to ask for.

In the cars defence the CSL has nearly no sound deadening so if a car is likely to squeak the chances are it will in a CSL, most is fixable though of course.

Try folding the back seats down to see if the squeak stops, I had a similar problem and is was play on the rear seat latch, a few foam pads did the trick.
