Time for me to seek some advice - KW Coilovers

I've decided to delete what I originally posted as the faulty items are now enroute back to KW Germany for inspection and replacement where necessary.

Thanks for all the suggestions and helpful posts and personal PM and emails to help with the situation.

The seller has stepped up to the plate so too has KW so far - so now just hoping for a happy outcome that won't cost me an arm and a leg.

Absolutely Gutted for you mate if this is the case!

Are we missing the point? These were serviced by KW UK and should have been highlighted and if faulty, should have been either repaired or replaced, like the one side was done.
Who is to blame here? KW for not finding the problem or the original seller as he may have given orders to KW not to repair fully due to costs accumulating fast?

That is exactly what you need to find out NZ, as it could either , would not of thought these would of been miss serviced by KW, all the servicing is done by hand in fitchenburg in germany, and ive seen the set up there first hand, very efficient.

If you need help finding out what exactly these shocks have had done, or any contact numbers etc to speak to the right people, then just PM me and I will be happy to help you get to the bottom of it.

No idea Alex. I would think that if the order by the original seller was to check and repair then it would be KW's issue.

I've been in contact with the seller and he's stepping up to the plate so far - so hopefully something can be resolved.

He did point out that the weld repair may have damaged the shock unintentionally - this I can understand, but I wasn't the person that did the welding repair and relied on my friend's expertise to do the right thing and correctly. Hopefully this wasn't the case.

The bearings however is another story - these are independent issues and should have been picked up by KW in the first instance. The amount of play is hard to miss.

To be fair also the end links weren't included in the original deal, although I was sort of misinformed that the OEM item would work - although I suspect the seller didn't know better to be honest and assumed that they would have worked.

        Wish me luck !!

The play in the bearing is horrendous - and the brand new shock actually has a bent bearing shim that's stuck on the shock body which I can't get off. I can only conclude that this was a missed service.

I have seen the invoice for the rebuild and the anti-roll bar mounting tab hole was definitely enlongated (12mm vs 10mm) - hence the reason I got these repaired locally by a friend who fixes army frigates and luxury boats.

Can you tell me what information I need to PM you about to find out about the history of these?

I knew I was taking a risk with used parts - having said this, the only reason I went with this set was the "rebuild".

You are right though - being at the bottom of the world with no KW agent makes all this much harder and more stressful (these were suppose to get to me in 3 to 4 days, but issues at customs caused a two weeks delay. On top of the delay to then have these issues with the shocks definitely don't help either).

I personally know Rodger, having bought a few bits from him and through various other things.

He is a stand up guy and I'm sure he would not intentionally sell an item he knows to be faulty.

Hope you get these all sorted Tom.

After some marathon emails last night looks like the faulty unit is going back to KW for inspection. The bearings are also going back for replacement as this would be an oversight by KW.

Have to say Rodger has been very good and very professional to deal with thus far. Just a frustrating situation on my end I guess having waited and waited and still no where near to bolting these in.

Worst case it will seem I will need to spend money on a new corner - but that's hope it's doesn't come to that and it was simply a faulty rebuild.

This is what I can isolate from the faulty unit:

                      - bump - works most of the time, almost comparable to the brand new unit in terms of full hard and full soft (not as hard and slightly softer on respective settings). Will occasionally stop working and revert to full soft if you start playing with rebound adjustment. Middle setting appears to be about the same as full soft (i.e. only the two extremes from what I can gather).

                      - rebound - works only some of the time, but no where near what the brand new unit feels on full hard and full soft. Most of the time the rebound is the same whether on soft or hard.
