    Part numbers

Do BMW know what part number was fitted to each car at manufacture and do they check..for example,, if an SMG pump was put on someones warrantied car from a non warrantied one and then fixed, would they know when they saw it removed. Just curious. I would not advocate this as it would be fraud and doing BMW out of much needed £2500 for a faulty pump.

    I'm sure they wouldn't notice...

On the other hand, I can't help thinking that massive pisstaking on warranty claims for hardcore track cars is eventually going to bite those of us that use our cars mostly on the road, in that it'll get much harder to get real claims approved.

      shimmy, guaranteed NOT

They don't check these unless it's an engine that has a serial number or an ECU that is paired with an engine + chassis number

You could have had a new pump fitted when the car was out of warranty, and then have that fail once the car was later warrantied.

In a word no, and even if they did know, they would have needed to check things like this before allowing you to re-warranty the car at any stage in it's life.

Unless the warranty T's&C's explicitly state that only original parts at the time of manufacture are covered under the 'extended' warranty policy then they have no grounds to refuse a warranty claim on this basis.
