Been caught speeding rather fast. Need advice!

On Sunday night at 11.30pm ish I was flying along the A31 near the New Forest on my way back home from a weekend in Devon visiting my parents. I was pushing on in my car as the road was completely empty for miles (or not as it turns out). I ended up getting caught at an indicated 96mph on a Hampshire police radar gun, with their full knowledge I was going faster before I saw them and braked. The cops were decent and also csl fans. I think this is the fastest I had ever driven in a car and only considered driving like it as there was not a soul on the road (!) naturally I'm always legal when driving in daytime/in towns etc as I drive a van all day and can't risk my licence.....

Now I do not need to be told how silly I've been :-D but I am now looking into dash/screen mounted radar detectors and the like...

Any advice/experience on detectors please ?? I'm not planning on trying this again but there's occasionally times where even in my van when I venture a couple of mph over the limit and Sussex Police are known to hide anywhere and everywhere with their radars .... the lovely :smt055 25yo lady officer has been caught 3 times speeding in Sussex :hahaha:

i think by the time a detector 'detects' the speed camera beam , it's usually too late

    blockers are illegal

be careful what you post on the internet

Thanks, I will take that article & your advice into consideration and edit my post  although the biker seems to have been a bit of a tit asking more dodgy questions than me on a forum :hahaha: I made sure I asked the above on the members only section
I would still like to know more about detectors and in particular ones that are updated daily with mobile sites.... agree with you about the fact once a gun has got you it's too late, didn't think of that.
I'm not asking about anything illegal, just what I can do to prevent any further momentary lapse of concentration when keeping to the speed limit

I use tomtom on my iphone5 as a satnav and subscribe to their speed camera warnings. These are kept up to date on all fixed and mobile locations .. but of course mobile locations are based on historic use rather than what's happening that current day.

Depending on what car I'm in, I also have a Garmin satnav onto which I've downloaded pocketgps speed camera warning info

pocketgps is probo your best starting point for any info ... it has the most up to date info and is user updated.

I'm pretty sure though, that when it comes to the mobile cameras there is little you can do .

Up here in North Yorkshire , historically the police have had the view to educate drivers / bikers who they have court , unfortunately they seem to have had a change in management & just bought 3 mobile vans :banghead: , which appear to be there mainly to raise cash .

I don't think a detector would have helped in your situation above, as there was nothing else around for them to point at and trigger the alarm to give you advanced warning. These only work when there is other traffic around having their speed checked.

If you're that worried about it, buy both a detector and blocker. The way the blockers work is to send back a spurious signal so it either errors out the Laser or registers a speed so high that it will be ignored, the detector will then pick up the fact that you are being Lasered, which gives you time to slow down and TURN OFF the blocker, so when they then Laser you again, it gives a speed that is within the limit and they will hopefully not bother pulling you.

However, if you did have the above, you would need for it be installed very stealthily, so if pulled it was not detectable.

I think the blockers are not illegal to buy, just illegal to use for the purposes of evading speed detection, BUT it is a long time since I looked into this, so the law may have changed.

The best thing to use is the good ol' Mk I eyeball though (or just don't speed :P ).

Thanks for the info, I have my iphone stuck to the window all day but am always taking calls as I am on call outs so that possibly would be a pain to have to keep a gps thing going on it too every journey...a separate box would be best, the pocketgpsworld looks good I will look into that.
Sussex police have recently taken to once a month ish getting multiple camera vans out, last week in a 5 mile trip passing along Brighton seafront there were three vans out on the same stretch of road, you only need to stray a couple of mph's over and that's your three points....

              Advice duly noted Mike

To be honest I'm still in a bit of a shock about getting 'done' I have decided to blame the wife. I was trying to get back to Brighton to pick her up shitfaced from an all day hen-do and save her a £20 taxi fare..... it will cost ME ten times that in a fine and possible insurance hike !

I keep an up-to-date pocketgpsworld database on an ancient TomTom One that I always try to use when driving on unknown roads.

If you have a look on this page:

and search for "Ringwood, UK" and see if the site that got you is known. There seem to be a lot of mobile sites on the A31.

Cheers the pocketgpsworld thing looks like what I'm after I think. The A31 is indeed busy with Police. The ONLY other time I've been done for speeding was 3 yrs ago about a mile away from the other night in my van, oblivious to the fact you are only allowed to do 60mph on a 70mph road in a white van, so I was done by a radar gun doing what I thought was legal at 71 when I should have been doing 60. Bloody road :banghead:

I've got a 'Traffic offence report' a T60 form. Told to expect a letter within three weeks. To be honest I can't remember exactly what the copper told me to expect...

I think that means a potential court appearance .

                              Oh crap.

                              *EDIT*

just googled T60 and this came back..

April 2013 The criteria for reporting motorists who exceed the speed limit have changed slightly. Police Officers at the road side will now either verbally warn or report the motorist for the offence by issuing them with a Traffic Offence Report (form T60) The report is sent to Hampshire Police Central Justice Unit where a decision will be made whether to offer the offender a place on a Driver Awareness Course or issue a fixed penalty

LOOKS like it's not so bad...

What did we do before Google ????!!!!!
