    Thanks to Derek

Just like to say thanks to Derek

He very kindly let me take his space at the recent BMW owners trackday @ Croft. It was a really last minute thing for me, but I managed to get across to Croft for 2:30pm and stay until 4:30. He wouldn't take payment, but he suggest a donation to charity, so I have donated £50 to Macmillan as it is the chosen charity of the classic Porsche club I'm a member of & we are trying to raise £10K + this year for them as it is our 10 year anniversay

Help Thomas Lubbock raise money to support Macmillan Cancer Support

    Regarding Croft :

My 1st ever trackday in the CSL .. previously I've only done a few trackdays over the last 10 years in my 1973 Porsche.

Had a superb time and was impressed with the BMW car club & the drivers / cars on track. I've never been to a BMW trackday so didn't know what to expect. Met some nice people, incl a member from here with a modified M3 ( SamT? )

Intial couple of laps was with an instructor which was a huge help.

Tyres were a bit slidy, even after Michelin lowered the pressures for me . Brakes never faded, but did get really hot ( smoking abit after my 1st session .. managed to improve my braking style after more laps ). Car performed really well, apart from the upshift paddle deciding a couple of time not to upshift :banghead:

Took a lad out for a passenger ride as a CSL was his dream car

Really really impressed with the CSL , great fun. In love with teh car even more now. Think I might have got the bug

Just need to think about what to do with my brakes, as I will need new front pads & possibly discs in the near future.

Quick Fix: Upgrade the Pads to RS29's and change the fluid to AP 600 high performance fluid or something similar (give ‘Trackm3’ (Martin) a pm) and get some ‘Hel’ Brake Lines fitted: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261212780761

If Martin can’t sort the fluid: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AP-RACING-...item2a2df20104

That’s a good interim strategy to adopt, before going down the more track focused and expensive 'AP' route.

      thanks Neil

Need to have a good think about brakes. Nothing urgent is needed, but would probabally need sorting before I venture on to track again.

My stock front discs have a good lip on them , so are getting to the point they need changing & the pads are also looking low ... probablly why the brakes were smoking / got so hot after my initial 8 laps or so. Rears look fine.

Read RS29's are noisy on teh road ... this is my pet hate, so would prefer more of a compromise pad.

Buy the RS29s and just fit them on track days - use the OE pads on the road - job jobbed .

PS. Pics of the trackday. or it didn't happen :blalalala: !

So's the Airbox, but no complaints there!
Airbox for Acceleration, squeaky brakes for deceleration just to let them know your still there!
I have them and once they bed in there not too bad, but I must admit that I down shift to brake, and only brake to stop other than in an emergency.

I have rs 29's all round on AP's. No issues with pad noise but you must be prepared to use the pedal vigorously on the road.

                  +1

discs 'grow' a bit with the rust - can be deceiving....

some better fluid, or even just new fluid will keep everything happier down there
