Is your current paint work in such a bad shape that a full respray is needed?

Thanks a lot for your feedback !

Work has been done. Only 2 value were a little bit out of tolerance. All belts have been changed and some other pieces.

Now we are starting full body paint.
I will create a topic with pictures :smt055

piece of piss job to do, just need to make sure you are careful with the magnet tool when removing and refitting shims

the tool is about £10 from the dealers, only other specialist tool apart from feeler gauges you need is a mic to measure shim thickness

i measured all valve clearances and any which were out of spec i removed and measured thickness of shim then refitted it so i could continue to measure the rest

then ordered the appropriate size shims from BMW, fitted them then measured all clearances again to be sure they were spot on

the spark plug tube seals and rocker gasket are annoyingly expensive :hahaha:

only 3 shims required for mine, car was noticeably quieter after and has been tip top since

remember and remove spark plugs when doing the clearances, makes turning over the engine by hand much easier

I am living in the south of France but sent my car near Paris for 3 months refurbishing. 1 month for the mechanic and 2 months for whole body painting. Many years in the Nürburgring scratched the paint almost everywhere and I want it like new.

Concerning the How to, the garage asked me if I know the values. It is time winning for them. So I guess (I hope :hahaha, they will do it fine. I am confident, that is why I sent the car so far in fact :

From the photo,Looks like a lot of people trust theses guys with there pride and joys. Great mix of motors

I do it to be able to use it again for the next 10 years. No worry for that. "Patina" is not what I prefer 😁

Sorry, only got it in german. But i have marked the important bits.

    Blue is Inlet Valve
    Red is Outlet Valve

Also note, that it says that Water Temperature shouldn't exceed 35°C when doing the adjustment.

I have no personal experience with valve adjustment, so better to wait for someone to confirm.
