install is straight forward, just remove the mechanical fan/shroud for access and than remove the oil filter housing and swap out the oem looking thermostat with this valve and put it back together. I believe this part makes the oil temp warm up slower which isn't a problem in the summer but it might be an issue for cold winter driving
Getting the OEM thermostat out is pretty easy. There was a circlip that holds everything in place. Once the circlip was removed, pull out the thermostat which consisted of a spring, the brass thermostat, and a flange that allowed the circlip to hold everything in place. Then put the diverter valve in the OFH, put the flange on top of the diverter valve and then install the circlip to hold it in place.

Had 2nd track day with m3 (first day had a lot otf problems with tyres rubbing wheel arch liners) and after about 10 laps water temp goes really nearly in red, after cool down lap temp back to normal. I have bought a motorsport thermostat and fan as well as oil diverter valve. Car was going well just under 2 secs of best csl lap, still getting used to it.Originally posted by rstoughy View PostWhat's the reason for doing this Derek?
You suffering high temps?

You must get quicker as do not have to think about the value as it is only an M3 :thumbs:Originally posted by derek View PostHad 2nd track day with m3 (first day had a lot otf problems with tyres rubbing wheel arch liners) and after about 10 laps water temp goes really nearly in red, after cool down lap temp back to normal. Yep the magical 2 seconds, doesn't matter about the price tag the standard m3
Simply doesn't cut it when you have driven both on track.
The Csl does it with ease, makes you look good, even with a stripped out m3 it hasn't got it.
I now really appreciate how good the Csl is. F1 teams would pay a fortune to save 2 seconds per lap.
Will do donny and Bedford after Adem and I fit new bits and square set up so same as Csl, then ponder on a 4.1 diff.

Dragged the CSL out of the lock up today then took it for a 5hr run around Royal Deeside......God its a great car, having been driving the track M3 around its amazing the feeling the CSL gives back. Remember mine is still running standard suspension etc and yet still its amazing.
Derek,
Having studied the data from KH I'm about 1.5sec a lap slower with the red car (at the moment). Think I just need to learn how to drive a car with an adjustable set up.
Let me know the next outing and I will try and make it along with the car.

Main difference is csl was 7 mph faster on main straight. Car much the same through twisties on the vbox file. Using the same tyres that I set the time last Aug in csl, they are now past there best. It's just a fun car that I don't need to worry about, I even let Mark drive car on track.Originally posted by billyboysm3 View PostYep the magical 2 seconds, doesn't matter about the price tag the standard m3
