It is winter here in Dayton OH and I was wondering if anyone with a convertible M3 has put their car through a car wash. I have had this car for about 4 months and have hand washed it every time. I do not want to hurt the top so, I wanted to see what others do.

Convertible in a car wash

Mine's been OK going through a touchless carwash on rare occasions during extended periods of bad weather. They should call them "wash-less" since they don't do much but get the car wet. I'd skip any add-on wax cycle since I don't know what that junk does to the top and leaves a haze on the windows.
Otherwise, I wait for a break in the weather and freeze my fool hands off hand washing it in the driveway. The water starts getting damn cold this time of year!
I just made the best car care investment I've ever made. I bought a '91 Dodge Spirit for $250. The Convertible stays safe, clean and cozy in the garage now.

my m3 isn't a vert, but I have an '01 sebring...
any kind of cloth top is usually ok (won't be hurt) in a car wash... vinyl is usually ok too, but be a little more careful (it's a little less resilient).
for mine, it's been ok running it through an automatic car wash - but avoid the one's that have the jets that spray up and down - the pressure is so hard, it sprays right under the seals into the car : )
I was always much happier with the kind you stand outside and spray - just put on your gloves and ear muffs : )... you'll be fine.
With that kind, I never had to worry about wiping up water from the inside when I was done...
But I'd recommend that kind of car wash to an automatic any day... 2nd to hand washing, of course.

I also believe a touchless car wash won't hurt your soft-top. I would never take it to a car wash with brushes, could leave swirls in your finish. Beware of the tire rails trashing your wheels though, due to the low profile tires. I have and will always hand wash mine, don't want to take any chances.
