just changed my oil & filter today...by myself

actually, i changed it yesterday. but after changing it, the filter, and going to pep boys to drop off my used oil, i can't believe i paid close to $100 to have it changed. it was really easy. the most difficult thing i experienced was trying to take off the bolt on the oil filter canister cap. the last guy who put that thing on must have had a gorilla arm or somethin cuz it was on really tight. i bought my filter at napa auto parts for $7.50 and it came with 2 o-rings and 2 washers. i paid @23.55 for 6 quarts of mobile 1 5w-30 super synth at my local costco. not bad huh? since the m3 needs 7 quarts, i just bought 2 cases of 6 quarts so now i have 5 quarts in my garage. so what did it cost me? well, i also had to buy an oil container for $12 which isn't so bad because i can re-use it over and over again. and also $9 for a ratchet wrench set at target. so that brings my total to about $55-$57 w/ tax. but the next time, i'll only have to pay for the oil ($23.55 plus 1 quart @ $5 & the filter for $7.5 @ napa auto parts). and where did i get the idea to change it myself? this forum of course! thanks guys!

Congrats. You may want to invest in a Clicker Type torque wrench so you don't overtighten the drain or canister bolt.

It is pretty easy and will save you a lot of $$ in the long run.
