Wanting to purchase a '95, question about suspension.

Hi there everybody. This will be my first post. I have been looking into purchasing a 1995 M3 for about a month now. It looks good, sounds good, even feels good, but you can tell there are issues by the price. Now, I love a good project, but one thing needs to be done immediately: the suspension needs to be remedied. I have taken the car in for a full inspection and diagnostic, and with the exception of a leaking valve cover gasket, they could find nothing wrong.

So here is my problem: the car is presently riding on 225/40-18 tires all the way around. In addition the car appears to have been lowered. When driving the car alone it is very quiet and feels fine, but when a passenger in the car the right rear suspension bottoms out on almost every tiny bump. I've dealt with lowered cars before, but I've never experienced this problem before. Does anyone have any advice? Stiffer springs, new shock mounts etc.?

    Welcome to the board.

When I got my car, it had aftermarket springs riding on stock shocks, which would bottom out on every bump.

I put stock suspension back into my car, new struts, got my original springs back, and new shocks in the rear.

I run 225/40 R18 all around due to my rims offset.

Outstanding; that helps a lot. Thanks for the info.

Find out what springs and shocks you have. If you have bilsteins then most likely the shock is running out of travel. Can't really help, with out knowing the stuff.

Good point. I'll have to have it inspected again. At the time the only thing the service people were looking for were problems. The mechanic inspecting has an M3 also, and he couldn't find anything "actually" wrong with the car, aside from a small possible leak from the valve cover gasket, but his description of the suspension was, "there's nothing wrong, but it feels....different." Still, something isn't quite right there.

my car has the bilstein bss's and they are adjustable so if one side is off that may be why it is rubbing. I had my uncle and my mom riding in the back seat and my car was rubbing on the side my mom was sitting in and she weighs about 100 lbs less than my uncle so that tells me one side is set diff than the other. Hope this helps
