    URI Crank Pulley Fiasco

So I finally got it in w/ the help from the awesome dudes at Edge Motorworks. Install was basically pretty easy, especially w/ the fan delete mod. We had to take off the water pump pulley to get the old crank pulley out and to put the new one on. So far so good until we put the belts on. UR recommended a GATES belt, 6 rib 59.4" long. Well, nobody near me sells Gates belts so I went ot Kragen and bought a Dayco 59.5" 6-ribbed belt which turned out to be at least 1.5" long. Ended up going to about 3 different shops (Edge guys kindly loaned out their personal car) and couldn't find anything close. Ended up w/ a 56" Goodyear belt that was almost the right size, but not quite. We decided that the idle tensioner pulley probably did nothing and took it off to get lose some length. Got the belt on snugly after that and drove home. The only time a hear an belt noise is when I have a lot of accessories on and the car has just been turned on, other than that, it runs great, w/ a noticable feeling of lightness during hard acceleration. I have ordered the right belt and will get everythign put back soon.

    HAHAHA the notorious Gates belts...

I'm getting rid of my '01 Maxima SE to get the 3.2 E36, and I used to be quite active in the Maxima.org forums. One or two of the mods for our cars required Gates belts, and GOD HELP YOU if you got ANY OTHER kind of belt. Those things are infamous...
