    anyone using a 3.91 diff on their E36 M3

Just want to know a few pros and cons on this. The M3 im about to buy has the 3.91 diff in the car and has the stock in a box. Should i keep the 3.91 in the car or put the stock back in. I need some pros and cons. Thanx alot

too short. A 3.46 is about as short as you want in a 5 speed street car.

This thing alreayd revs wayyyyyyy too high on the highway. A 3.91 would be crazy fast, but too impractical.

is it stick or auto? if auto leave it in the car, if not then sell it for cash or keep it for track days. I have 3.38 in my stick and gears are already too short in my opinion, 3.91 must be hell

I agree with the others, they are too short. Do you plan to just drag the car?

THe car is a manual, and the car is going to be driven as a daily driver/some track. Yea i figured at a crusing speed it will be reving way to high for my liking. Well the guy has the stock 3.15 so ill probably throw that one back in and sell the other. Thanx

Even if you did a six speed conversion, I think you would still end up with the rpm's being up in the top gear. I have been told that 3.76 or so is the highest one should go in a e36 with a six speed, 3.46 if you have the 5 speed transmission.

yeah i have a 3.73 its great but it is a hassle on the highway and costs me a lot with gas, now that i m getting a 6 spd that will resolve that problem, thanks to ups who broke the mount on it looks like i will be waiting a nother 2 weeks before they come to appraise it so i can get it fixed anyhow.....3.38 is prob your cheapest good upgrade you can do for the diff but if you can get a 3.46 that would be even better...Sell the 3.91 to a 325er there is always one thats crazy enough put that on.,
