antifreeze leak in my M?? what happened?

hey i have no idea how this came about, but i was driving around tonight and noticed the engine getting really hot, so i pulled over at the mobile station and my engine was actually smoking. so i lifted the hood and antifreeze was all over the place, the nasty green fluid splattered everywhere! so i sat there until it stopped smoking, and cleaned under the hood. at this time anti freeze was leaking out the bottom of the car. the guy said i should put more anti freeze in, so i did. after 2 minutes the antifreeze level dropped down again (a significant amount compared to how much i put in)



could there be a leak? a hose broken, somthing loose? what happened?

Sounds like something is broken. The radiators like to crack towards the top, where the plastic meets the metal. Then it runs down the side of the radiator, making it look like its leaking from below. You could have a bad hose too thats leaking.



You need to get it pressured tested to find the leak.

I read an article in an auto industry mag that said the top hose will rub against something and cause a leak. inspect it and see if it is touching anything. If it is there might be a leak at that spot.



Fill the resevoir with fluid and then start the car. watch under the hood as the car warms up and pressure builds it should start leaking. shut off car and find the leak. Let it cool and fix the leak.

Did you say GREEN???!!! shouldn't be BLUE??!! and what about the water pump! did you replace it before? it could be that if you didnt change it..
