    Clunk in the driveline

Ok i searched but didnt find any good stuff. I know the typical clunk in the driveline, but it seems to be pretty loud and very jerky, does this mean the joints on the driveshaft need to be replaced or something. Sry for lack of detail but its kinda hard to describe.

Most likely, that happened in my 735 and got those replaced....no thumps anymore.

Check your diff. nose bushing and associated bolt.

the guibo can make a clunk, as can the diff bolt.

Had the same thing on my E30 but only at certain RPMs. If it's always, could be someting different but I'd start by checking the hanger bearing for the driveshaft, mine on the E39 was worn to hell........no problems once a new one was put on.

i'm getting the same thing. some say its guibo but when i looked it seemed ok (not like a ball of threads like some horror pics ive seen). i have two clanks actually, one coming from behind drivers seat, other in the clutch area). they are really pissing me off and evertime i engage and disegage at low speeds they make clanking noise. can anyone help?

possible: guibo, tranny output bearing, clutch improper install, driveshaft center bearing, etc etc ?

I thought that clunking was normal (depending exactly on what it sounds like). New E46 M3 owners complain about our clunky tranny.

Yeah from under the rear seats, during a gear shift at low speeds sounds exactly like the hanger bearing. Not sure exaclty how much to fix but as far as parts, my uncle did mine for me as well as a few wheel bearings, brakes, and tranny mounts for $400 Canadian on my E30..........so you're looking at a fraction of $400 Canadian for the hanger bearing alone.

what is hanger bearing? is that the middle bearing of the driveshaft?
