Check Engine Light: Engine Temp Cold

Ok guys, as always after a long weekend I was estatic about going to work. TO make it even more majestical my check engine light comes on and my engine temp will only go up a quarter of the way after running for approximately 25 minutes. As I had stated wrt the CAI install, I had cut a hole in the brake duct and it was a cold morning....but it just doesn't make sense: Should I ground the vehicle, thank you in advance, and I guess that its good it's not running

Maybe your thermostat is stuck open and it will not allow the engine to reach operating temp, which in turn has caused the computer to throw a code = check engine light. A new thermostat should cure it.

I agree, sounds like your thermostat may be stuck open.

Thanks guys, at lunch today, it started climbing to about 75-80% of operating temp...which is a little comforting...is there a way to visually check the thermostat? I'm going to try to pull some codes after work and let you know what comes of it.

Good thing its stuck open rather than closed heh. Personally I'd like to hotwire mine open, but I hear that even using the thermostat that the fan delete kit uses actually hinders performance. This is because the car never reachers optimal operating temp apparently. So all you guys with fan kits, look into it.

I'm sure you've already checked the simple: Low coolant fluid. Yes, Low fluid can cause those symptoms.

Thanks Carl, I have been getting that control check on and off for a couple of weeks now, but my coolant level seems to be perfect, Do you guys recommend I switch it out...or just add more and see what comes of it?

When driving my E36 the operating temp used to be constantly 100, but now it begins to go to 110 does that mean there is a problem ?

If you pull the thermostat to check it out, you might as well just throw in a new one as they are not that expensive.

Regarding the fan delete kit, my temp always goes right to the middle regardless of it being cold or hot out. In addition, the electric fan still kicks on, so the engine is still heating up plenty hot.

OK, so my fluid is about 1/2 inch above to cold mark, I'm going to put it exactly on it and see if I can get my control check to go away...
