stereo advice please

just blew my HK stock amplifier in my 97 M3

was wondering if it would be better to get a new 4 channel amp or to use my alpine head unit (60x4) to power new component fron speakers?

any suggestions on amps or speakers? do i need an amp with crossovers or can i just splice a new amp in place?

the head unit amp is actually 22watts RMS X4, so almost any aftermarket amp would be much better, the factory amp is probably better than the alpine amp. I am a huge fan of JL amplifiers, i used to have a 300/4 which is 75X4 rms, its a very clean amp. If you have the stock speakers you will have a slight issue because the crossover for the speakers is inside the factory amp. Each speaker in the 3 way component is wired seperately, so if you just hooked them up to a new amp it would quickly blow the speakers. I would recomend buying a set of front component speakers and hooking up the rear stock woofers which can handle being put on an amp.
