Does it ever reach the middle? Or does it just take forever?

Looks like signs of a stuck thermostat.

no it never even really gets out of the edge of blue since its been cold.

I mean before it got cold it would go right to the middle no problem.

But something tells me this is why my heat isnt really heat, it barely warm.

Start the car before you get in the shower, put the thermostat on 80 and recycle the air....you'll be snug as a bug in a rug in 15 minutes.

You let a cold car idle for 15 minutes? Real bad for the engine...

These cars are designed to heat up (the engine) in cold weather. Your car failing to heat indicates a cooling system malfunction, probably a thermostat stuck open like everyone else said. I doubt there is a problem w/ your cabin heating system. T-stat is easy to do, not too expensive.

ditto with above posts its easy to fix and really is not a huge deal. I am doing my dads e36 today because it has the same problem. I would recommend going with an aluminum t-stat housing since your going to be right there anyway

                  good luck

Why is that "real" bad? what kind of damage could it cause?
