    painting nosepanel myself, help!

i just picked up a used nosepanel for my 95 m3, i would like to sand it down and paint it myself, except i have no clue how

i have bmw orgininal paint, but i dont know if i have enough, anybody have any idea how much i should use?

my friend has an air gun, so i was thinking of using that, if worse comes to worse they offer bmw paint in spray cans

so, what steps should i take to do this? i dont wanna take this a paint shop and pay over $100, so this would be my only option

i really appreciate any input, thanks

prep for painting is the most expensive portion of having paint work done. If I were you, I'd do the prep work, sanding etc... then pay someone to apply the paint... if you do it all yourself... You are begging for problems

I think Dakhar has given you good advice. You can by automotive paint in an aerosol can, but you'll not only need base, but primer/filler/sealer, and clear. You'll need to sand up to about 260 grit to prime, and about 400 grit to base, and at least 600 between clears. You shouldn't sand it down to bare metal, but use the existing paint as a filler, and then use glazing putty for small holes or marks. Then when you spray you need to get the paint flowing correctly to acheive the proper sheen.

It's best just to take to a shop after you've prepped it, ask him if it's ready for paint, and when he says it is, he'll put the primer and paint on for you.
