How to determine time to replace shocks?

The title pretty much says it.

So... how can you tell it's time to replace the shocks? I'm currently running the stock Boge-Sachs but don't know if the previous owner replaced them.

The issue for me and probably Mr. "I'm New" is we bought our cars used so we don't know how long ago (or if) the previous owner replaced the shocks.

Your reply is congruent with historical posts I was able to search up. I was hoping for more obvious specifics, but the following link is the most informative I've found on this topic:

My car doesn't just come back up one time after I push down on a corner. There's a slight second bounce, I think. I'm still not convinced whether this is normal or indicative of wearing shocks. My next step will be a visual check.

I think you need new shocks. I'd change em at 40K intervals.

I might just replace my shocks for peace of mind. The previous owner might have put a new set of shocks on 5,000 miles ago but I can't figure a way to tell whether my shocks are near new or not.

I plan to purchase through Autohausaz.com. I recommend to compare them versus shox.com. Autohausaz.com ships free for orders >$50, and each rear shock is just $59.66 (versus list $106).

best advice I would give is do the set. IF the previous owner replaced the rear shocks, you won't be wasting much money. Mine where shot at 65k miles, and leaking. I never realized how wonderful the car COULD handle until I put the Bilstein sports in. and they have a lifetime warranty.
