    CD Changer "disk error"

Whenever i try and play a cd (burned or a real store bought CD) i get a disk error message on the head unit. What does this mean? has anyone else ever got this message? the changer spins the cd but will never play... tia

not too sure, but in most cases that would mean that you changer has a dammaged laser or tracking mechanism ... i.e. time for a new one

you car has a different changer than mine i beleive though.

Have you tried unplugging it and plugging it back in?

Yeah ive unplugged it a few times. I can hear it spin but the laser tweaks out a few times and then gives up. You are probably right, the laser tracking mechanism is gone. who knows... :nixweiss:

Yea I had the same problem, the entire disc reader (laser) had to be replaced, (150$) and then she was good as new.

Mine did this a couple of months ago. I took the cartridge out and slammed it back in a couple of times. It actually worked. When it happens again I will probably just replace the head unit and get an Ipod setup.

I had the same problem, but I was told to replace the cartridge b/c it could of been warped from age or heat? I havent done it yet, and would like to know if that would actually work before i go and blow 20 bucks on it.

save your money and just install a new head unit that xm/sirius ready & plays mp3s and WMAs.

                changers are yesterday's news.
