    Failed CA Emissions?!

When I went to smog my 95 M3 this morning it failed emissions. The shop stated the timing was off. I had a TMS chip in there, but right before smog I swapped the stock chip back in. Does it need some time to readjust back to stock settings? Only other mod is a URI crank pulley that I left on. Please help, need to pass smog asap for registration. Thanks.

If you have the Conforti/Shark chip you WILL fail California emissions. It's a well known issue that should have been part of a disclaimer upon purchase. It is not 50 state legal. If you changed it without driving it some distance the ECU would not have time to update (similar to when you put in a SuperCharger).

The timing would revert to stock immediately after removing the TMS chip. Timing is commanded within the chip. However, the AFR (air/fuel ratio) would need time to adjust to the stock parameters. Running too rich or too lean can both cause smog test failure.

Please post the 5 gas readings, and i can help you. when it comes to that, a car is a car is a car... well OBD1 anyway.

i got my stang through CT emissions after a long process with a MAC 5 gas analyzer.

Car runs like a champ with the conforti or stock chip. Car passed all tests at 15 mph, but failed at 25 mph. Here are the readings at 25 mph:

                  %C02 = 15.3

                  %02 = 0.0

                  HC (PPM) = 57 (maximum allowed 50)

                  C0% = 0.21

                  NO (PPM) = 326

Thanks in advance for the advice and help.
