Alright so I searched around and I found similar cases but not this particular one. My drivers side door handle will not work (From the outside) 95% of the time. Once in a blue mooon itll work. It opens fine from the inside, but from the outside Im lucky if I can get it open and not have to look like a jackas$ climbing over my seats to open it from the inside . I read that sometimes there was an issue with the latch just breaking which could be fixed with a strong zip tie but Im not sure if its the same issue. Just hoping to get some input before I strip the door down and start effing with stuff. Thanks guys.

mine did that a year ago. Until one day it was really really stuck and I yanked on it and broke that little metal rail that runs on the inside of the assembly for the handle itself. Broke it in three places. I have still yet to order a new one. I got quoted 180 for a keyed latch assembly and thats without the 15% BMW CCA discount too. If a shop installs it they will charge upwards of $700.
Better to DIY, you have to remove the window though and if you cant we-align the window right just take it to a shop for that part.
lets just say I have mastered the technique for crawling over the seats to open the door. ha
It doesnt sound like its all the way broken since it still opens. You might want to try adjusting the catch on the inside side of the door itself and also the catch on the door frame. adjust it up or down

You do not have to remove the window, just pull it off the tracks so you can further pull it up. It clears just fine once you understand how it's assembled.Originally posted by cfn101788Really, you dont have to remove the window? I tried to get the assembly out one time. It was a pain and it only came out because it was in 4 pieces. I can almost guarantee I would not be able to get the assembly in there without atleast tilting the window forward so it clears the hole.
