Anyone bypass throttle body coolant lines?

I searched but not a single throttle body coolant line bypass thread. I see them there, plain as day connected to the throttle body. Anyone done it? What size hose fitting connector do I use?

i bypassed my tb coolant lines, i just used the one of the factory hoses and routed it in a loop from one hard line to the other. works like a charm.

Why would you want to do this?

basically the coolant line is there to keep the throttle body from freezing shut or something and maybe help the car warm up a little faster, if you bypass the line then your throttle body wont get as hot is my understanding.

Right, but it would be a negligable difference. Seriously, rerouting the coolant lines arent going to change the intake charge temperatures enough to do anything (i.e. increase HP resulting from more dense air). The heat soak from the engine will more than warm the throttle body and intake temperatures, regardless of the coolant lines. A CAI will do more than removing the coolant lines.

Im just trying to understand the reasoning behind wanting to remove the lines in the first place.

its even more pointless for me considering i have a DINAN BBTB and a s/c so no idea man. i think thats the general idea, its a rather pointless line if you only drive it in the summer though. i mean the throttle body IS going to be warmer for no reason with the line intact.

Exactly. Just seems like a needless thing to do, so I dunno

the lines help warm up the intake temp on cold starts... when the car gets hot those lines can increase the air temp slightly.

i doubt a noticeable gain will result.

i've done this on other cars... nothing in terms of a gain.

                      Are you all morons?

The function of the lines to the TB is to keep ice from forming on the throttle plate and bore at small throttle openings on cool humid days. There is a thermostat in the airbox that only allows coolant to flow at lower temps. Above 50F there is no coolant flowing.

There is absolutely no point in removing the lines.

At 3000 RPM, the engine is ingesting 4500L or 476.5 ft^3 of air per min or 7.9 Ft^3/sec. ( every 2 revs the engine makes 1 complete induction cycle)The throttle bore is what 64.5mm? so that's air is moving at what? 224Ft/sec... How much heat do you think the bulk fluid of air is going to pick up? (yes, I'm pretty sure I did all the proper conversions) Answer, about none...

You car will be faster if you got your azz on a treadmill and lost 1 lb...lol

                      Ok, I'm done now...lol

Ive done it.. its prob good for 1hp.. which cant be felt.. but it all ads up..

never had any problems with cold weather even in new england..

You would ice up if you sit in idling traffic on cold humid days, common in New England. You must not idle too long and you got lucky. And no way that you gained 1hp. With the volume of air flowing past the small heated area there's no way it would heat the air charge enough to make a difference. Why would you post this when you have no idea what you're talking about? I think the engineers have just a slight idea what's going in here. Nice post Richardsperry!
