Yeah, it's dirty. Deal with it. (56k don't bother)

So, I'm back home finally and have been wanting to experiment with my mom's new camera, a Canon Rebel XSi. I'm a noob at this photography thing, so I went out for a little photoshoot to see what I could do.

Before I get any responses, let me just say this: I know my car isn't perfect. The dent on the passenger-side is being taken care of this summer along with the curb rash on the drivers-side rear wheel. None of these damages were sustained during my ownership, by the way. Window seals are also being replaced.

Oh yeah, and it's dirty. Deal with it.

And I would post more, but apparently their is a monthly limit for us non-premium Flickr users.

I'd throw some clears and get rid of that faded ///Mblem, badge delete ftw. Otherwise, gorgeous Corin

Has your car been repainted? Looks like some orange peel on the rear quarter panel.

Car looks nice btw, just asking

Thanks B! Yeah, the 99's were especially prone to faded emblems, I'll get to it.

It has been repainted, but not in the area you're talking about. I think the orange peel effect you're seeing is the texture of the paint?

Orange peel does effect the texture, but it's there because it was resprayed and either the paint wasn't mixed or sprayed on properly or the wet sanding wasn't done properly. No offense, but after seeing it in person, that panel has been repainted.

Ambers don't look bad on dakar.

you're talking about the passenger side rear quarter panel right? If so, yeah I know... the PPO (previous previous owner, ie the first owner) apparently did it, because the PO knew nothing about it. Oh well, I'm getting that quarter panel completely repainted anyways...

Looks good. Nice job with the photos for just messing around with it. I always shoot in aperture priority mode when I am shooting my car. The Av on the dial.

I like that side shot you have it looks to be the best outcome with the camera and I really like the positioning on your sig pic. Very nice.

Thank you sir, that's a great compliment coming from you! I did like shooting that side shot... it was interesting how up-close shoots with the lens zoomed all the way out gave a really dynamic photo, while standing really far away with the lens zoomed all the way in gave a very linear/flat looking image. The side shot that I posted up is the latter.

Yeah, I was shooting in M mode, so I had control over the aperture as well as exposure time, though I don't think I touched the aperture too much. I did do very light post-processing using Adobe Lightroom 2. Good program for noobs like me haha!

I use that program all the time for editing. I sharpen in Photoshop though. You will get more depth of field when you are shooting at a small length say 18mm. This being that the background will be clearer and more focused. When you zoom in or have a zoom lens the background will be blurred more and the car will pop like how I shoot sometimes at like 200mm zoom.

That seemed to be the case on the side shot.

I think it is easier to shoot on Av rather than manual though. I shoot at like a 5.6 aperture and then let the camera choose the shutter speed. If that is too slow I sometimes bump up the ISO to say 400 or 800 to keep it sharp. I also try to use a tripod.
