    Mass Air Sensor_99' M3

My 99 M3 did not pass VA emission and it was throwing two codes(as mentioned in an earlier thread_1188 and 1189). I thought it was due to my MAF being dirty and needed to be clean but when I checked, it looked like it was brand new. I took it to Alexandria Bavarian Auto to further diagnose it.

They said it needed a new mass air sensor since the one on the car is shot and quoted me 895.52 for parts/labor. The labor is around $100 and the rest goes to the new sensor. Does this sound right to you guys? Im thinking of buying the sensor and doing this myself(any DIY suggestions?). Also, whats the best place to get a new sensor from? Thanks.

If the HFM does indeed need to be replaced, definitely do it yourself. Have you seen it before? It's probably a 10 minute install, if that. And finding a good stock one should be no problem, since everyone upgrades to the Euro HFM. And if that's something you were looking to do anyway, that's another option for you. Either way, it shouldn't be anywhere near $900 to fix it.

that's pretty high.. buy one online.. and replace it yourself only AFTER you've cleaned it, replaced the air filter, cleared the codes and the reappear.

literally.. unplug it, unbolt it and reinstall.

Where is the best (most reliable site) to get a Euro, ebay? Sorry to jack, but this is one of my next "mods".

There are a few guys selling them on bimmerforums.com as well, plus you can get them new through Technique Tuning, just talk to NickG.

No problem, I need to find a good source.

Im going to clean the sensor first and reset the computer, if this doesnt work out then I will have to buy a new one. Any other methods to reset the computer other than unplugging the battery?

The shop was licking their chops like a pack of wolves when they quoted you that price.

Go to autozone, "rent" their OBD II reader and clear the code.

Thanks. That is the first and last time they will see my car at their shop. Talking to the owner I thought this place was decent too before I took the car in. They charged me $100 for reading the codes which I already told them that I knew about. I was pissed but played it cool. These f'en bmw mechanics...buncha filthy dirty rats.
