    Have fun.

It's another step of the seemingly endless others to a like new handling ///M3.

just finished this less than a minute ago

      couple things

      1) the production stamp end of the guibo goes on the steering rack. This will take ANY confusion out of "which side goes where". That side of the guibo has the bolt hole slightly IN the steering rack shaft. The bolt slides in between the break in the splines on the steering rack

      2) no extensions, wobbles, u-joints, etc were needed

      3) I anti-seized the crap out of the guibo before reinstall. I actually put the guibo on backward because the "larger face" wording was kind of confusing. Even though I had the steering rack already bolt back in, because of all the anti seize, and the guibo not being "pinched" yet, I was able to remove it, flip it around, and install correctly without removing the steering rack again

great DIY though, and if u add these couple small things, would make it easier to do piece by piece... Including jacking the car up, taking all 4 wheels off (other work being done), and replacement.... 45 minutes

Nice. How you liking it? I noticed barely any difference (most is probably in my head) maybe my old one just wasn't that thrashed. It did look tired and mushy... but maybe looks are deceiving? At any rate, good DIY and I'm glad I have a new part in there. The hardest part for me was getting my tools in the small, confined area of the nuts on the top of the steering rack. My wrenches BARELY fit. I found the steering rack bolts pretty easy to loosen though. No breaker bar needed whatsoever

Removing the X-brace helped a LOT with tool maneuvering...

Didnt need to remove the X-brace, and I havent driven with it yet...

I'm doing new clutch pedal and everything connected to it, and then adjusting rear swaybar endlinks tonight, and then prepping more interior stuff

          I MIGHT drive it tomorrow

How much is the guibo/coupling and what is the best source to purchase it from?

I bought one from Pelican. I forget the price, maybe $50ish.

For the later euro spec m3's the guibo was a btch to take off. I went for the AGK alloy replacement. Can now now feel my little one farting from about 2miles away ; ).

So I just got done replacing the guibo and guess what, that wasnt the issue at all. Mine had 148K on it and really wasnt in terrible shape. A little soft but no tears or rips on the rubber itself. So it seems that my clunking sound is coming from something higher up on the steering column. I would imagine its the upper u joint? If you grab the guibo or the column just above it, it actually wiggles slightly in your hand and you can clearly hear the jiggling sound. Anyone else have this part come lose or wear out? I can see its gonna be a b!tch to get to so I may just suck it up and let the stealer do it. I'll source the parts of course. What all should I replace?
