    Painting my calipers red

I'm thinking about painting my calipers red. I have a hellrot red 97. Now, I personally dig the way red calipers look, but this a ricey thing to do? Is there a stigma that goes along with doing this or not?

I'm sure most on this site will agree with me when I say, DON'T DO IT! Leave red to Brembo. Welcome to the site, BTW.

there is a stigma and it is ricey when the calipers don't look like they came from the factory red....

PS...i've used folia tech caliper paint in the past and found out after several washes (if degreaser is sprayed on the wheels to clean them) that the paint will go from glossy to flat....

I'll go with Titan 3 on this one, leave it to brembo, stoptech, etc...

if i ever needed a BBK, i'd go with something subtle and hardly noticeable, black or maybe silver.

Depends on the color of the car. I really liked the stock calipers I painted red on my Avus car. I really like the red uuc/Wilwoods I installed even better now...

              A few keys:

Take the caliper off the car. Great time to rebuild the calipers.

It can never be too clean or smooth. (you can say that about a lot of things...lol)

find some low dust brake pads, so you won't have to use harsh wheel cleaner as often.

This I cannot stand... You take a classy.. clean E36 M3 and you want to paint the calipers red?

I see lots of cars with red calipers! 5% actually have a BBK installed.. and the rest are $4000 Hondas with front calipers and rear rotors painted red by buddy in his driveway with spray paint from the craft store. A nice body kit and chicken wire mesh over every opening is the later step. Often the chicken wire is then painted silver to try and hide the rust that forms on it.

                Do not do it.. IMO.

This is one of mine. I used a low gloss black paint, and am really happy with the result. GL with whatever you decide.

It will look fine red. Or color matched to your car.

I don't understand how its considered a "ricer" mod. Most calipers look like **** as the miles roll along why not hit it with some fresh paint that compliments the car? I guess I'm not enough of an OEM wh*re yet lol.

Red is acceptable sometimes but IMO black is always a better choice. Just don't paint them yellow or blue or something.

I'm in the "calipers should only be red if they came that way" camp.

I recommend black. Myself, I painted mine black and then painted the ///M logo its appropriate colors. Following that was some high temp clear coats. Unfortunately it's a pain in the butt to keep them clean enough to easily see the logo.
