E36 factory alarm upgrade w/ pics

    E36 alarm light flash option

Factory e36 95 - 99 alarm systems are made by Alpine and aftermarket alpine alarm system gives you a audioable alert for arming and disarming as well as a light flash.

Factory bmw alpine alarms do not flash the lights on arm and disarm only if the alarm is triggered.

I have owned two differant cars and have done this mod to each. I just got a 97 M3 and here is the walk thru. The job takes about 30 -45 min, $8.00 and when you are done and arm the alarm the lights with flash and when you disarm they will as well.

I am a MECP cert. installer for 17 years and alpine factory trained for alarms (back when they were in production)

    YOU WILL NEED:

    6 - female spade terms(18 ga)

    4 - 6 " wire black, red, blue and white(18 ga)

    1 - 10 amp fuse

    crimpers

    black elec. tape

    zip ties

    phillips screw driver

    olfa knife

Ok first remove the under dash and locate the brain right about the passenger kick panel. Black 5x8 box with a green connector.

unplug the green harness and just abouve the fused yellow wire cut the black cover that covers the wire about 3 inches away for the plug end. Just a single slit is fine. pull out the wires.

now locate the red, dr. green and yellow these are siren(red) lights(grn) and 12v constant(yellow)

now you need a single pole double throw automotive relay 20 - 30 amp is fine. you can find one at any auto store for $5.00

wire the relay like this with 6" of wire

    86 to blue

87 to red fuse this wire with 10 amp fuse

    85 to black

    30 to white

make a fuse holder with two female spades

ok now move back to car an attach the following relay wires to car wires(no need for diodes the factory alarm has them internal)

    Relay car

    blue red

    white Green

    red yellow

    black yellow

after connection plug the main harness back into the brain and test remote and make sure they flash. The car should chirp 4 time due to door being open

now wrap the harness back up with black tape and zip tie

install under dash and watch for your friends reaction at night when you arm the alarm ..

I have many other upgrades i will post later

if you need help call my cell 706 247 0812

    i will walk you threw

    thanks enjoy SCOTT

Any ideas why my alarm no longer chirps, even though the remote still controls the locks and I've gone through the chirp on/off procedure countless times?

Replaced siren with known working - still no chirp

Checked fuses (except the fuse behind the glovebox) - still no chirp

Removed factory horns - Maybe this is why it stopped working? although I remember it still working after removal.

          about the no chirps...

first look at the led when you get in does it light up and then go off.

and if you arm or lock the car with remote does the led flash

if not you are stuck in valet mode

i think the way out is open the driver door push and hold the unlock till the led flashes

ill check but i think that is correct you can double ck in your manual

and thanks everyone on the comments

Nothing. Everything operates as normal (arm - LED blinks).

Thats really strange that it stopped working randomly. I know with most alarms there's a way to program the brain, through the keypad, to have the alarm not chirp. I did a search and couldn't find if BMW's keypads have that function. On some remotes, it has directions on the back of the remote on how to turn the chirp off.

They do, as stated in the first reply, I already did the on/off procedure countless times. I used the procedure to get it to work in the first place and it worked great for a year.

ok have you tested the siren ..

hold the lock button for 5 seconds it should go into panic and sound off

to stop it hold the lock again then hit unlock

or take the plug at siren brown is negative and black w/ blue is 12v. test with speaker wire and a drill battery

sirens can get water in them an rust out.

any old alpine soft chirp will work or look for one in a junk yard

Would you guys find value in me scanning certain pages out of my BMW remote keyless-entry security system owner's manual?

Already replaced the siren with a known working one. Still the same.

Goes into panic just fine, just no sound at all.

ok this is what i would do .. call me 706-247-0812

or pull the alarm brain fine the red wire third over from yellow 12v

this is the siren out .. alpinr throws a 12 volt out on this wire to charge the siren it is a constant 12 when in panic or alarm

ck with test light or just conect the siren positive to it and ground the brn.

can you see what it says about the valet feature .. i dont have a manual

and how to get it out

silene arm/disarm is not what the problem is ..

OH but then again you also got to make sure the siren's brn wire has a gound and it is not cut

also ck the wire at the siren with a test light..

this way you can see if there is a brake between brain and siren
