How to remove E36 Trim - Please Help!

    Hi All,

I'm after any advice on removing the trim on an E36 running from the front mirror to the back of the rear window on the car.

I've tried to indicate the piece of trim I'm talking about in this image.

    Thanks in advance,

    Jarrod

      NO.

Remove all the rubber from the rear windows, and pull down the door seals. If you dont want to keep the trim just yank it down. If you want to keep it, start at the front and work your way back SLOWLY.

          Friction.

It's a pressure fit, no glue, no tape. Same goes for installing, do not use glue, do not use tape.

A legit DIY, from the master, would be much appreciated! You can use my car to do the pics............ha ha. I plan on doing this the spring as well, along with all associated rubber and plastic trimmings.

Just posting up what I found using the "vaunted" search mechanism on our fabled boards...

I searched the forum but was unable to find any information. If you were able to link me to this page you found I'd be very appreciative.

                      Thankyou

                        Jaz,

If you just click on the link it will take you to the page. I searched on here using "window trim" and "door trim" as my search. The results took me to a link to a BFC thread which had the above linked webpage. So...yes, there was nothing to find in our forums, but a lot of the different BMW forums link to one another. If you peruse the DIY section you will see that many of them are links to off-site forums.

                        Good luck.

I did it, but it was quite a pain. If it is peeling like mine you cannot just paint it because the trim has some sort of rubberized coating on top of it. If its not peeling I would guess you could just sand it down quickly and paint it without priming it.

Since mine were cracking and had some surface rust, i had to carefully scrape it down to the metal with a scraper, and then I used a 600 grit sandpaper to prep it for painting. As far as painting it, I used a self-etching primer and a can of Wurth black trim paint. This is NOT the perfect fix, it is kinda ghetto but if yours look as bad as mine did it works wonders. I will replace them in the near future, but did not feel like blowing 300 bucks on door ledge mouldings.

I wonder if underbody coating would work?
