    Radio "CODE" Message

Just got a "CODE" message on my 95 M3 and the radio stop working. Owners manual says to enter the security code that was supplied by BMW. The only problem is I don't have it. Is there any way to get it or find a way around it.

Have you called your dealer yet?

You can get it from the dealer. Your battery must have been disconnected.

when you do find the code in the folder with the owners manual, or get it from the dealer, the numbers of the code are the numbers on the presets. if the code is 2345 push preset 2, then preset 3....

sounds obvious, but other radio brands have different procedures for entering the code. also you get only so many tries then it locks for an hour of being continuously on. if you exceed a few more tries it is permanently locked.

only potential pitfall with this is that I bet you need the S/N off the radio itself, which requires the 5 sided security tool (unless you want to try and use a hex and risk stripping out the screws)

I'm not sure if the dealer can go by vin alone or not...

S/N can be displayed by the radio. There's a sequence of buttons to be pressed that makes the radio show it's S/N. Radio does not need to be pulled to look at its S/N that is printed on its back

Dealer knows how to do all this. I actually was told how to make the radio show its S/N on its screen but I honestly cannot remember how. Yes, it does work

edit: this is how to dig up your S/N without pulling the radio
