I got my 97 m3 2 years ago with 198k, now it is at 243k... i changed the power steering pump, shocks, thermostat, thermostat housing, tires, and some other used door trims for it right after i got it to make sure..... if it runs good it could be a good buy. i got my m3 for 2800$ because of the power steering problem....

I got mine for $6k with 200k, I dd it and have had to do the waterpump and ps rear wheel bearing, which I was pretty sure I would have to do when I bought it. So I would say with what you listed as done to the car that $6.5k is good.

what does a while back mean? if say 10K then the work adds value. if more than 10k miles ago it is just maintenance. 10K is not a hard number, more a rule of thumb to give you an idea.

if it is an auto it may be a high price. if it is a manual on the original clutch you may be in for a 1200+ clutch job soon. if, if, if. not enough information to analyze the deal.

but - if you like it, why not?

What you described is about the least amount of maintenance I have ever heard of for a 97 M3. Keep looking into details about the car. If it went to a dealer, they have records.

All 95+ coupes were manual trans.

Any car that has made it to almost 200k miles didn't make it that far without a lot of maintenance. Problem is at that mileage many items will need to be replaced for the second or third time. Whether its worth buying depends on how much work it will need in the near future.

Definitely get someone to inspect it that knows E36s very well. With the amount of maintenance a lot of higher mileage cars need, you would be money ahead spending $10k up front for a really well maintained example with half the miles.

Well I have heard and read that the S52 keeps about 98% of it's horsepower when looked after if that means anything ....

                            Didnt know that. Thanks.

I wanted to confirm and the best I could find in my five second search on autotrader was this

                            http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false

But, I also found this which from the text of the ad seems to be a M3 sedan that is "right" and the asking price is fair. too bad it is an automatic. For someone looking for a good DD M3 sedan this seems like the car.

If they have receipts for all of the work, and it was recent, sounds like a decent deal. If they don't have receipts, then treat it like the work never happened and offer accordingly.
