    Troubleshooting aux cooling fan?

My air conditioning works, I just recharged it and its holding a charge. I found the culprit of my a/c not working being the auxiliary cooling fan.

I'm trying to figure out why the aux fan is not working:

-The fan spins freely but does not turn on with the a/c as it should

-I pushed the fan blades by hand once with the car parked and the a/c on. The fan began spinning. Since then it has not worked or had any response to me spinning it by hand.

-I checked the fuses 13 and 15. They appear fine.

    What can I check for?

Does anyone have a link to a troubleshooting manual for the aux fan?

I am not sure if the problem is the fan itself or the fan switch.

Get yourself an electrical diagram, (ETM) check the normal and fast speed relays along with the switches. You also have pressure switches from the AC compressor.

From my understanding the fan is activated on low speed by the AC being turned on. High speed is determined by coolant temp.

I want to find out if the fan motor is shot or if its just getting a weak signal from the fan switch.

get a multimeter and test for an open/closed switch to see if the fan motor is even getting a signal first. Find an ETM for your car. Here's one from a '97

Nope, the fan comes on in slow with the ac, or if the coolant temp reaches the lower setpoint of the temp switch in the radiator end tank. It goes to high speed if the coolant temp reaches the second setpoint of the temp switch. (91C, 99C or what ever switch you have installed) or the pressure switch in the ac system says that there is high load. (max cooling).

There are fuses and relays for both slow and fast.
