Use what Helmut installed on the assembly line. He got his orders from Fritz in engineering. Fritz studied long and hard at the Tech institute in Munich.

is this the same fritz that designed the fastening of the oil pump sprocket?

...but the accountants who designed the "... __ years maintenance included" program are the same ones who run the company and realized they could save $__ per vehicle by using a plug whose life span may be greater regardless of what Helmut really wanted

Though in all seriousness, these spark plug and oil threads are 95% ridiculous.

The Plugs on our MDX go 100,000 miles. The engine has run perfectly since day 1 . It has 75K on it now. The maintenance is not free on the Acura, so there was no financial motivation for Acura to spec such a plug. I have no illusion there is some magical Splitfire type plug that will get me more power or better economy.

No, I read that was Klaus who did that. He drank heavily and was related to the guy who installed the CAD system they designed the floor with.

I'm saying OEM may not use THE best plug for the application because there is a plug that does a fine job but lasts longer. Copper is still and always will be the best conductor. There is no magical spark plug... we sent men to the moon and build 22 mile long particle accelerators, yet there have been no "real" advancements in spark plugs other than materials and designs that simply LAST longer. Sparks create heat, and heat starts the combustion... it's literally as easy as that

Oh and if you know the name of the man responsible for all the parts of my car I had to reinforce... let me know

Actually 100K out of a plug seems kinda magical to me, as all the cars I had growing up could only get 5-10K out of plugs.

I don't care what kind of plug it is, i'd never keep them in my car for 100K miles. Plug changes in my WRX are probably the worst to change out of any car out there and even those (I run iridium, per direction of my tuner) won't be in my car anywhere near 100K. They're relatively cheap and easy to replace. If even for fear of them freezing in the head, i'd get them out of there much earlier than that.

In the M3, it takes 20 minutes if i'm taking my time. I do them every spring. Overkill? Absolutely.
